Supplies Drive Supports Success for Students at Innovative Learning Center
With the fall school season just around the corner, the Dayton Area Board of Realtors (DABR) recruited the assistance of Realtors from all around the Miami Valley to donate school supplies for students at the Innovative Learning Center (formerly Longfellow Academy). Piles of notebooks, pens, book bags and more were presented to the school at a breakfast event on August 3.
“Realtors give back to the community at every opportunity they have, and that’s very important,” stated Joyce Ballmann, chair of the Affiliate Council, the committee spearheading the supply drive with DABR’s Community Services committee. “We hope this drive helps in even a small way to encourage students to learn, graduate from high school and be productive in the community, raising families in Dayton, Ohio.”
“This means so much that we have the support of the Dayton Area Board of Realtors”, remarked Myra Baker, Director of the Innovative Learning Center. “When our students and their families transition to this school, supplies will be ready to go and they won’t have to worry about buying a lot of these items. We really appreciate this school drive.”
As members of the community, Realtors take part in a number of community initiatives throughout the year, from contributing funds to cultural programs such as the Muse Machine, to donating money and materials to credit counseling services. Their volunteering efforts include working with Rebuilding Together Dayton to repair homes and assisting the Blue Star Mothers by preparing care packages for deployed military personnel. DABR’s Foundation provides scholarships to dependents of Realtors, and their annual holiday reception serves as Dayton’s largest source of donated toys to the Marine Corp’s Toys for Tots.
