Award Recipients Honored at Reception

On January 19, the Dayton Area Board of Realtors (DABR) announced the recipients of the 2016 Affiliate, Community Service, Rookie, Owner/Manager, and Realtor of the Year Awards at the annual Sales Leaders Club Reception held at the Mandalay Banquet Center. They also honored one member with the Distinguished Career Award. Their contributions to the real estate industry, the community, and the Realtor organization are greatly appreciated.

Distinguished Career Award – Marguerite Mulligan, associated with Coldwell Banker Heritage, has been a DABR member for almost 40 years, having received a real estate sales license in 1978 and a broker license in 1988. She holds the CRS designation and is a member of the Women’s Council of Realtors Dayton Chapter. Commitment to service is a way of life for Marguerite, and involvement with DABR committees began in 1985 by joining the Education Outreach committee. Since then she has joined or chaired over twenty committees, ranging from MLS and Legislative/RPAC committees to social event planning. This strong commitment resulted in her being elected DABR president in 1998.

Realtor of the Year – Mark Kottman, associated with HER Realtors, has been licensed since 1976, is a graduate of the DABR Leadership Development Program, and holds the Dayton Region Ambassador certification. Mark is a current member of the Board of Directors and had previously served on the Board from 2009 through 2015, including serving as president in 2014.
He currently participates on the Professional Standards, Legislative/RPAC, Strategic Planning, and Forms committees and has served on numerous committees in the past. For the Ohio Association of Realtors (OAR), Mark has been a director since 2011 and has served on the Legal Issues Forum, Policy Activity/RPAC Fundraising, Communications, Commercial Industrial Committees and MLS Forum. For the National Association of Realtors, our recipient was the Large Board Representative on their 2014 Board of Directors. Local community involvement includes membership in the Lions Club, Metro Dayton BNI and past-president of the Bellbrook Band Boosters.

Affiliate of the Year – Cheryl Mathis, associated with Caliber Home Loans, has been a member of DABR since 1996. She chaired the Professional Development Education Advisory Group in 2010 and 2011, and has been active on the New Realtor Forum, Rebar Camp Planning Group, Foundation Fund Raising Committee, and Legislative/RPAC Committee. Additional industry affiliations include membership with the Women’s Council of Realtors Dayton Chapter, Dayton Mortgage Bankers Association and serving on the Sinclair Real Estate Department Advisory Committee. Cheryl is also involved in the community as a coach for the Miamisburg City School’s Destination Imagination team.

Realtor Community Service Award – Mark Ryan, associated with RE/MAX Victory, received his real estate license in 2003 and a broker license in 2007, and has been involved with several area community organizations. His involvement spans a variety of leadership roles, from serving as a “chief” with the YMCA Adventure Princesses to coaching football with the Wee Elks Football and Cheer program. Another of Mark’s passions is Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a national charity devoted to raising awareness and developing cures for childhood cancer.

In additional to this award, the community organization of his choice will receive a contribution of $250 from DABR in his name.

Owner/Manager of the Year – Jeff Owens, associated with Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Big Hill, has been a member of the Realtor organization since 1988. He has chaired or served on many board committees including MLS, Forms, Finance and Professional Standards. For OAR, Jeff served as a director from 2014 through 2016. He also served on OAR’s Legislative, Communications, Political Activity Committees, Business Technology, Legal Issues, and Local Government Forums. He has been involved with other local Ohio associations including serving as president of the Delaware County Board and a member of the Clinton, Lancaster and Marion associations.

Rookie of the Year – Jennifer Danishek, associated with Coldwell Banker Heritage, has been licensed since 2014. As a new Realtor, Jennifer achieved more than $3.6 million in sales. This achievement also qualified her for the Award of Distinction in the 2015-16 DABR Sales Leaders Club.
